Little girls in a bridal party need hair styles that stay neat, don't take too long to do and won't hurt a tender scalp. Here are some cute style ideas.

Small flower girls are unlikely to cope gracefully with two hours at the hairdresser, particularly if curling irons are involved. Fortunately, simpler styles tend to suit young girls better anyway. Too fussy a hairdo can make girls look like they’re contestants in a beauty pageant, not children in a wedding party! Choose a style that complements the flower girl’s natural hair texture and you’ll eliminate straightening or curling.

Lace Braids for Flower Girls

Lace braids are trendy, simple enough for a talented relative to do, and handily quick. A lace braid – also called a headband braid – runs along the head a few inches back from the hairline. If the flower girl is wearing her hair loose, a lace braid adds textural interest and helps keep her hair out of her Face. Lace braids can be performed as Frenc, Dutch or rope braids, and made fancy by braiding ribbons into the plait.

Twisted Half-Ponytail for Flower Girls

Another option for loose hair is to secure a few strands in a “princess” half-ponytail. The hair is centre-parted, then a thin section of hair on either side of the part (running from the part to the ears) is collected. These section are twisted towards the part – clockwise for the left strand, anticlockwise for the right – and joined at the back of the head with a clip or hair elastic. This hair style is very easy to “pretty up” with ribbons, flowers or jewelled clips placed at the join.

Tiny Fountain for Young Flower Girls

If a flower girl is so small her hair is still very short, try a tiny pigtail that makes a small “fountain” of hair. Experiment with a centre fountain, a fountain off to the side, two tiny fountains on the top of the head or at the nape, or even – for thick hair – a dozen little fountains all over the head. Add a ribbon bow or use sparkly elastics to secure the hair.

Twisted Rows for Flower Girls

Similar to the lace braid look, twisted rows are particularly attractive on thick or curly hair. The hair is parted from ear to ear a few inches behind the hairline. Then the front section is divided into several sections running back from the hairline. Each short “stripe” is twisted, and the twist secured at the part with a mini-clip or sparkly mini-elastic. The twists provide textural interest at the front while leaving the back of the hair loose.

Sock Buns for Flower Girls

If the bride wants her flower girl to wear an updo, a sock bun is a good choice. Sock buns are padded, creating a full hairstyle even for girls with fine, thin hair. A sock bun is quick to do and holds securely. Best of all, it can easily be dressed up woth a silky scrunchie, flexible wreath of flowers or individual sparkly mini-clips.

Accenting Flower Girls’ Hair Styles With Decorations

Since most flower girls won’t hold still for an elaborate hairdo, the easiest way to make a simple style look special is to add decorations. A perfectly plain hairstyle, with hair brushed back from the face without a part and left loose, can look stunning with a wide crocheted headband or a series of mini-clips added a few inches behind the hairline. Hairtoys range from beaded nets which cover the top of the head to beads and ribbons attached to the ends of bobby pins. Try the flower girl’s everyday hair style with some glitzy additions and see if the effect is snazzy – she may feel more at ease with her usual hairdo.
