Want to pop the question in the Magic Kingdom? Here are some romantic spots within Disneyland for a private or public proposal.

Disneyland is a popular choice for people wanting a memorable and romantic ambience for proposing. For Disney enthusiasts, anywhere in the parks will be meaningful; but some spots in the park are particularly romantic.

Proposing on a Ride at Disneyland

A lot of people like the idea of proposing just before a scary moment on a ride, such as before the final drop on Splash Mountain. In theory, the ride’s cameras will capture the couple’s reaction on the way down, creating a quirky keepsake. However, it’s worth taking into account a few downsides of this idea. Guests often scream as a drop approaches, meaning the proposal could be drowned out; the ride photos frequently do not turn out, sometimes because of other guests flashing the camera (at which Cast Members automatically scrap the photos for the ride); and, while making for a fun story, the situation may disappoint someone hoping for a more romantic and heartfelt proposal. Anyone who does decide to try this should make very sure the ring is secure!

Not all Disneyland rides are extreme. The Mark Twain riverboat at dusk is a beautiful spot for a proposal – some people time the proposal for just before the fireworks go off.

Finding an Empty Spot at Disneyland to Propose

Some people like proposing in front of a crowd. Others prefer a more secluded experience, which can be tricky at Disneyland! Waiting until the park is about to close is one way to get some privacy, as is visiting the park during Disneyland’s less busy times.

The Court des Anges – Court of Angels – in New Orleans Square is a secluded and romantic spot. The court is close to the Pirates exit and features flowers and a lovely blue curved staircase.

Snow White’s grotto is a very popular place to propose. The area is semi-private and features a garden-like atmosphere with Snow White’s wishing well, a fountain, and the strains of “I’m Wishing” playing periodically.

Asking Cast Members to Help Plan a Proposal

Couples get engaged (and, indeed, married) at Disneyland all the time, so the Disney park staff are experienced in discreetly setting up proposal scenarios. Couples typically report that Cast Members are delighted to go the extra mile to help ensure privacy during a proposal, including allowing guests into areas after their usual closing time and taking photographs. However, it is wise not to assume special privileges, and to arrange ahead of time with Guest Services if anything particularly out of the ordinary is planned. Guest Services is likely to have some creative proposal ideas as well!

Proposal venues that may require some coordinating with CMs include:

  • The Lilly Belle, a beautifully decorated train car dedicated to Walt Disney’s wife Lillian
  • A balcony table at the Blue Bayou
  • In front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle just before the fireworks go off (the area is roped off, but CMs will let a couple through if asked)
  • On the Jungle Cruise – the skipper will propose on the guest’s behalf if desired, or hand over the wheel to allow someone to propose while steering.

Things to Keep In Mind When Planning a Disneyland Proposal

  • Disneyland does not allow guests over the age of nine to wear costumes in the park. Sadly, this puts the kaibosh on dressing up like Prince Charming for the occasion.
  • Thefts do occur at Disneyland, so the engagement ring should be kept in a safe location until the moment arrives. A zipped interior pocket will also prevent the ring flying away during a roller coaster ride!
  • If the proposal is planned for a particular ride, check ahead to make sure it will be running. Disneyland occasionally closes down individual rides for refurbishment, particularly during the off-season.

Above all, remember that the proposal is about more than a fun anecdote for later life. Proposing may be a once-in-a-lifetime event, so keep love and commitment at the centre of the experience, not Walt Disney!
